Concerto for Tuba, Strings and Percussion
Premiere 15th June, 7.30, St Paul’s Covent Garden, WC2
The wonderful MIke Poyser is the soloist in this concerto I’ve written for him, performed by the Marcel Sinfonia and conducted by myself!
The piece is based around aspects of Mike’s character and playing – his whacky humour, the breadth of music he performs professionally, his love of extended techniques and his really soulful, expressive musicality. So listen out for various unusual percussion instruments – sirens, whistles and bullroarers included – as well as multiphonics and Mike removing bits of tubing.
