John Webb composer & animateur

I am a freelance composer and workshop leader, and occasional conductor, pianist, writer and consultant. You can discover some of the music I’ve written below, including music for animated films, works for children and more recent pieces (started in lockdown) written from the inspiration of a picture or feeling and here bought to life with some images.

Music for animated films. Scores for Pearly Oyster Productions have been nominated for Music and Sound Awards in 2017 and 2022. Beware of Trains has been shown internationally, winning various prizes including the Cutting Edge Award at the British Animation Awards 2024 and was longlisted for a 2023 BAFTA.

Music for a variety of theatrical contexts. In addition, I have created shows collaboratively with children on many occassions, most notably partnering with Michael Faraday School, Southwark, the Royal Academy of Music and Blue Elephant Theatre. Most recently, I created music for Fagner Gastaldon's micro-theatre paint show, Azul.

In lockdown I started to create short works based on a picture or a feeling. These have developed into a series of short films with music. September 2025: Mr Icarus, a new film produced in collaboration with Shelley Hopkins using vintage footage of some early attempts at flight. See below under 'Dramatic'
